Welcome. What's on this page is largely from the 2022 election.
Nothing has changed, except that now a big question
is whether you think it's appropropriate for the District to spend $1000 per household on a new office
building with private offices for every staff member. I don't agree.
I have not seen any board member reconsider their position based on a comment from
the public. In fact, I don't recall ever seeing a vote which was not unanimous.
2024 Note: The District claims to be transparent, so why doesn't the monthly listing of payments
made indicate anything more than the amount and the payee? Specifically, it should include the purpose of
the payment! Then you could see that the District is violating the law in paying directors for multiple
committee and board meetings in one day. The law limits them to one payment "per diem." This is probably
why most discussions are pushed to committees instead of being at the full board level as with nearly all
other special districts.
This election is not a popularity contest.
It is not necessarily best for you or the town to vote for a candidate based
on name recognition. I do not socialize much, therefore, few of you know me.
But my promise to you is that if elected,
I will always do what's best for the community as a whole. My 21 years of
experience (see below) on boards like this demonstrates that.
My Top 3 Priorities if elected
Having attended most Board meetings since the resumption of in-person meetings,
based on my experience (enumerated below), something just doesn't feel right to me.
There is little discussion and only rarely debate on issues being voted on.
It feels to me that most of the decisions are made by staff and just rubber-stamped
by the Board.
2024 Note: Because the board completely ignores comments from members of the public, I have stopped
attending meetings in person but watch every one on Zoom. (If the Board cared about the general public,
they would arrange for video recordings of the meetings to be available on-demand so that you could watch
them when it's convenient for YOU.)
Experience
The Granada Sanitary District became the Granada Community Services District
in 2014 via a public vote, so my 21 years there was seamlessly from GSD to GCSD.
(This 21 years is approximately the same as the combined total length of
service of the current 5 members of the TODBCSD board!)
GSD/GCSD is a part owner of the Sewer Authority Mid-coastside (SAM),
which is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA). Each of the 3 JPA member agency boards
appoints two of its board members to the SAM board.
GSD/GCSD has the lowest rates and yet the most reliable collection system
of the three member agencies.
